Notes:
- While the yield strength of these materials depends significantly on the
microstructures, the data selected for comparison are reasonable from application point of
view.
- Wrought 2219 Al alloy [1]
- P/M DRA 20%SiCp/2009 Al. Considerable scatter in the data exists depending on the matrix
microstructure, particle size, volume fraction etc [2].
- High temperature P/M Al-8.5Fe-1.3V-1.7Si alloy (AlliedSignal Inc.) [3].
- P/M Al-62wt.%Be (Brush Wellman Materials) [5]
- PM DRTi 10 vol.% TiCp/Ti-6Al-4V [6]
- Solid lines in DRA and Gr/PI indicate full life (~3000 hrs) of these materials up to
those tempeartures, dashed lines indicate significant fall-off of properties with time.
- Significant mass loss in Gr/PI leads to property loss above 200°C.
- Target properties of DRA+ can be achieved by introducing more coherent and stable
precipitates, and also by more uniform distribution of reinforcements.
